Silica Sand

Washed and graded silica sand with consistent grain, high silica, low iron, and low moisture.

The grade

Silica sand is the SiO2 a glass furnace, foundry, ceramic body, or filtration bed actually runs. Buyers stay when the grain band, the silica, the iron, and the moisture show up the same way on the next lot.

Skylark Exports supplies washed and graded silica for those plants. The work is consistency: a cut that matches the sieve or AFS number you already qualified, silica high enough for the melt or the mould, iron low enough that colour and casting stay in spec, and moisture low enough that the sand does not arrive wet. Filtration and construction use the same habit of grading. They simply ask for a different band.

Figures on this page are typical for the grade family. They are not a Skylark certificate of analysis, and they are not a promise that every lot sits at the top of the range. Send your limits with the quote request. The current sheet is what you compare, not this table.

What buyers check

  • Consistent grain for the sieve or AFS band the plant already runs
  • High silica, with iron held low enough for glass and foundry
  • Low moisture after washing and drying
  • The same cut from lot to lot, so the furnace or mould line stays steady

Applications

  • Glass

Glass batches need silica that stays high and low in iron, plus a feldspar flux whose alkali does not drift.

  • Foundry

Foundries buy graded silica for moulds and cores, and refractory clay where the hot face has to hold.

  • Ceramics and tile

Tile, sanitaryware, and tableware plants use clay, feldspar, silica, and quartz so the body stays plastic and the fire stays predictable.

  • Construction

Construction uses graded silica sand where grain size and cleanliness matter more than a glass-grade iron limit.

Questions buyers ask

Which grain size of silica sand can you supply?

Grain is graded to the sieve or AFS band the plant runs. Glass, foundry, ceramics, construction, and filtration do not share one mesh. Send the band you need with the inquiry. The ranges on this page are typical for the grade family, not a Skylark certificate of analysis.

How low is the iron?

Buyers compare iron as Fe2O3. Flint glass and clear glass want the low end of the typical band. Foundry and some construction uses can accept more. Ask for the current sheet against your limit. Nothing on this page is a lab result for a named lot.

What moisture should we expect?

Washed silica is dried so moisture stays low enough for glass, foundry, and filtration. A typical figure for this grade family is below 0.5%. Confirm the limit you will accept, and the moisture on the shipment sheet, before you book.

How is silica sand packed and shipped?

Typical export packing is 25 kg bags, 50 kg bags, 1 MT jumbo bags, or bulk. Which of those Skylark actually offers is still to be confirmed. An inquiry should name packing, quantity, and the destination port you want. This page does not list ports or countries.
