Kaolin Clay
China clay selected for whiteness, plasticity, and low impurities in bodies and coatings.

The grade
Kaolin, or china clay, is the white clay in a ceramic body, a paper coating, a paint, and a rubber or plastics compound. Buyers are not shopping for “clay” in general. They are shopping for whiteness, for plasticity when the clay has to form, and for impurities low enough that the body or the coating stays clean.
A forming plant feels plasticity and green strength first. A paper or paint line feels shade, residue, and how the clay sits in the coating. Both will reject a lot that drifts. Skylark Exports supplies kaolin against that use: a ceramic grade when you need the body to form, a whiter coating grade when colour is the point.
If the line needs higher brightness, opacity, and hardness than raw kaolin can give, look at calcined kaolin. If the body needs a recipe rather than a single clay, look at blended clay. Specs here are typical for the grade family and are not a certificate of analysis.
What buyers check
- Whiteness held so bodies and coatings stay on shade
- Plasticity for ceramic forming, without a surprise in green strength
- Low iron and other impurities for paper, paint, rubber, and plastics
- A grade you can reorder, not a one-off pit sample
Applications
- Ceramics and tile
Tile, sanitaryware, and tableware plants use clay, feldspar, silica, and quartz so the body stays plastic and the fire stays predictable.
- Paper
Paper coatings use kaolin for shade and smoothness, and calcined kaolin when opacity has to go further.
- Paints and coatings
Coatings use ground quartz, kaolin, and calcined kaolin for mesh, brightness, and opacity in the film.
- Rubber and plastics
Rubber, plastics, and cable compounds use kaolin, calcined kaolin, and quartz powder as controlled fillers.
Packing
- 25 kg bags, typical export packing, still to confirm
- 50 kg bags, typical export packing, still to confirm
- 1 MT jumbo bags, typical export packing, still to confirm
Questions buyers ask
What whiteness is typical for kaolin?
Ceramic bodies, paper, and paint coatings all want a white clay, but they do not share one brightness method. Compare a sample with the standard you already run. The word “high” on this page means typical of a washed china clay for those uses. It is not a measured result for a Skylark lot.
Will this kaolin form a ceramic body?
Forming grades are chosen for plasticity and green strength as well as colour. A coating grade can be very white and still be the wrong clay for a plastic body. Say whether you are forming, casting, or coating, and we will talk about the grade family that fits.
How do impurities show up?
Iron and titaniferous impurities push a body or a coating off white and can speckle a glaze. Buyers set a limit and check the sheet. Do not treat the typical note on this page as that limit.
How is kaolin packed for export?
Typical export packing is 25 kg bags, 50 kg bags, or 1 MT jumbo bags. The packing Skylark offers is still to be confirmed. Include packing and quantity when you request a quote.
